Week 45 Challenge - Macaroni

Each person should have 25 lbs of pasta for one year. They have a shelf life of 30 years if stored in a number 10 can.

Week 44 Challenge - Fruit Juice Mix

You can purchase number 10 cans of fruit juice mix at the LDS cannery. The shelf life is only 2 years. Make sure to rotate! Fruit juice mix is a great idea to have in your storage. There is a possibility your stored water will not taste great. You will want to add something to mask the taste of the water.

Week 43 Week - Popcorn

Amount of popcorn varies on preference.

Week 42 Challenge - Wheat

Each adult needs 150 lbs of wheat for one year. If stored in a number 10 can, wheat will last 30 years. Wheat has complete nutrients but needs to be ground for many uses.

Week 41 Challenge - Pudding

The amount needed is based on preference for you family.

Week 40 Challenge - Granola

You can purchase granola at any store or make your own.

Here is an easy recipe:


Gunn Nutty Oat Granola


4 cups regular rolled oats
¾ cups packed brown sugar
¾ cups regular wheat germ
½ cup pkg coconut
¾ cups cashews, 
¼ c sunflower seeds
¼ c sesame seeds
½ c sliced almonds
1/3 cup salad oil
½ cup honey
1 tsp vanilla

Stir to blend oats, sugar, wheat germ, coconut, and nuts. In small pan heat oil, honey and vanilla. Stirring until bubbling. Mix liquid with dry ingredients. Grease 1 large cookie sheet, spread mix out. Bake uncovered at 325 for 20 min stirring once in middle.

Week 39 Challenge - Red, White, Pinto Beans

Beans have a shelf life of 30 years. They cost about $4.50 in a number 10 can. You should have 60 lbs of legumes per person for one year.

Week 38 Challenge - Chocolate Chips

Amount needed is based on family preference. Shelf life is approximately two years but if stored in a freezer they can last 4-5 years. Over time, the chocolate may get a whitish coating on the outside. This is the result of the cocoa butter rising to the surface. This does not affect the quality or taste of the food. These definitely qualify as a "psychological food".

Week 37 Challenge - Spaghetti Sauce

Amount needed is based on the past storage for your family. Sauce is a great source of a variety of minerals and vitamins. Shelf life is a few years.

This is the week to check and rotate the storage that you have. Also, review weeks 25-35 and get current on any item.

Week 35 Challenge - Potato Flakes

The amount varies with your family preference. The shelf life is up to 10 years.

Week 34 Challenge - Peanut butter

The amount needed is based on your family. Shelf life is 2-3 years. You can also purchase it in powder form at places like Emergency Essentials. Peanut butter is an excellent source of protein and does not require refrigeration or cooking.

Week 33 Challenge - Carrots

Amount needed is based on preference for your family. Shelf life is 25 years if in a number 10 can.  This item is great for stews and soups cooked in a crock pot.

Week 32 Challenge - Onions

Amount needed is based on preference for your family. This is great for stews and soups cooked in a crock pot. If stored in a number 10 can they will last 30 years.

Week 31 Challenge - Raisins

Amount needed is based on family preference. This item is a great source of vitamins and requires no cooking or special storage.

Week 30 Challange - Baking Soda

The amount needed is as much as you desire for your family. Remember how important leavening agents will be in baking.

Week 29 Challenge - Banana Slices

A sweet treat for the family. Store as much as you desire. These are great to eat as a raw snack, or can be re-hydrated to put in jello, muffins or bread.

Week 28 Challenge - Salsa

Include the amount needed for your family to "spice" up your food storage meals.
